High Satisfaction at North Harrison R-III (MO)

North Harrison R-III students are very happy with their new pff service program, and are consuming a much greater variety and quantity of fresh fruits and vegetables. North Harrison School District began contracting with Lunchtime Solutions, Inc. to provide meal service to its students beginning February 1 of the 2012-13 school year.

Troy Clawson, Superintendent commented that the new offering are very popular with students and that as a sided benefit more of the school staff is participation in the lunch program. “ The fresh baked sub buns are really a big hit, and I have heard lots of positive comments on them.”

Locally purchased means fresher and better tasting, and the locally grown produce will be served along with a fruit and veggie bar that is included as part of every student lunch meal. Students are allowed unlimited amounts of fresh fruits and vegetables from the self- serve food bar.

Lunchtime Solutions will be capitalizing on as many local purchasing opportunities as possible in order to bring the freshest foods possible to the lunch programs. Local producers and growers used in Missouri for the six other school districts that contract with Lunchtime Solutions include Red Barn Farm in Weston, The Amish Colony near Stanberry, Goslee Farms in Skidmore, Girratono Meat Company in Albany, Hawk Hill Honey in Maryville, and Leopold Farms in St. Joseph.

Menus by Lunchtime Solutions like that served at North Harrison R-III have been recognized by the USDA as in the top 1% in the USA for nutritional excellence, receiving the Silver Award in the HealthierUS Schools Challenge. The USDA-sponsored challenge recognizes schools that include increased physical activity and nutritional plans that far exceed the requirements of the National School Lunch Program. Less than 3,000 schools in the entire USA have been awarded under this program.
